Motor oil company Valvoline Global Operations is moving its headquarters from Lexington to Cincinnati, though its American operations will remain in Fayette County.
The company announced the move in a Monday release. It will keep more than 400 workers in Lexington, who will focus on the company’s operations in the U.S., Canada and Latin America.
The new headquarters are meant to house its executive leadership closer to its largest production facility, with space for 120 employees. The company manufactures motor oil and other lubricants for vehicles and has been headquartered in Lexington since 2017.
Valvoline Inc., which operates as a separate company with different leadership, will stay in Lexington. It manages quick lube businesses across the U.S. and Canada. Both companies currently operate out of the same building at 100 Valvoline Way in the southeast part of the city.
“Valvoline Inc. and Valvoline Global Operations are separate companies with different ownership, leadership and business strategies. Valvoline Inc., is publicly traded on the NYSE and owns and operates retail quick lube facilities throughout the United States and Canada,” a spokesperson for Valvoline Inc. said in an emailed statement to WEKU.
Valvoline Global’s new Cincinnati headquarters is expected to open next spring. The new headquarters will be located at 312 Elm Street in downtown Cincinnati, operating out of a 50,000-square-foot space.
