A judge dismissed a sexual assault case against former University of Kentucky swim coach Lars Jorgensen last week after a settlement was reached with two swim team members.
The two former swimmers, Briggs Alexander and “Jane Doe,” filed the lawsuit against Jorgensen, former UK Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart and the university in 2024 in U.S. district court. The suit alleges sexual assault, including rape, by Jorgensen, and further claims the university and Barnhart learned of the allegations and took no action.
U.S. District Court Judge Karen Caldwell signed an order dismissing the case against Jorgensen with prejudice Aug. 6. Her order states it does not affect the claims against the other defendants, UK and Barnhart, who retired in June.
UK spokesperson Jay Blanton said in a Tuesday email the university is “completing discovery and expect to file dipositive motions."
Last week's joint stipulation of dismissal filed by lawyers said all claims by Alexander and Doe against Jorgensen had been resolved.
Lawyers for both parties did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Jorgensen was the coach of UK’s swimming and diving program from 2014 to 2023.
