Severe weather is expected in the Bluegrass region Tuesday afternoon.
The National Weather Service forecasts a line of storms through Central and Northeast Kentucky through the evening as a cold front moves in.
“There's a lot of wind energy associated with this front, so we're watching it very closely,” NWS Louisville office meteorologist Cliff Goff said Monday. “SPC, the Storm Prediction Center, has Lexington and mainly the Bluegrass at enhanced risk, which is three out of five on their scale.”
As of Monday morning, the NWS forecasts a 45 to 59% chance of severe winds around 70 miles per hour. Tornadoes, hail and flash flooding are also possible.
The NWS recommends staying indoors and sheltered in the event of severe weather.
“Seek shelter. If, of course, you hear a tornado warning or anything like that, then find your lowest level in your home, interior room,” Goff said.
The NWS recommends paying attention to the forecast in the meantime by checking weather.gov, a preferred weather app, listening to local meteorologists or tuning in to your weather radio.
Calm weather is expected through the rest of the week. The cold front should bring slightly cooler temperatures to Central Kentucky, with forecasts in the high 70s and lower 80s expected through Friday.
