Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton reads the proclamation to Lexington E911 Center director Jonelle Patton

Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton has issued a proclamation recognizing the efforts of the city's Division of Enhanced 9-1-1.

These are the people who make sure first responders get the information they need to assist those who call for help.

The recognition happened as part of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

Jonelle Patton is the director of Lexington's E9-1-1 Center. She said the city's dispatchers are always ready.

“Lexington is just so blessed to have a 9-1-1 team of dedicated individuals ready to take the call, ready to serve. We are a committed group of individuals, and we are continuing to strive for success,” she said.

Mayor Gorton said the city is constantly working to make improvements to better serve the residents of Lexington.

“We are in the process of upgrading our E9-11 technology to allow for the submission of texts, photos, videos, and location data while placing a call,” the mayor said.

She said this advancement will improve response times for first responders. It should make sure they arrive at the scene with the most accurate information possible.
