WEKU Director & General Manager Mike Savage was honored with a 2026 Unity Award on Monday in Lexington.
The award was presented by the Alpha Beta Lambda Chapter Education Foundation, organizer of Lexington's annual Unity Breakfast.
According to the foundation, the award recognizes individuals and organizations that have exemplified the true legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., made a difference in our community, and have worked towards unifying our community.
Savage said he was extremely honored to receive the Unity Award.
“This award recognizes the hard work of WEKU management and staff who produce award-winning, public-service journalism that connects Northern, Central, and Eastern Kentucky. It’s an honor to receive this award as we remember Dr. King and celebrate his work.”
Savage has managed WEKU since 2018. He previously served three terms on the NPR Board, is the current President of the Association for Kentucky Public Radio Stations, and was honored by the Kentucky Broadcasters Association Broadcast Leadership award in 2024 and 2025.
