Lexington’s 3rd District councilmember Hannah LeGris says she’s stepping down from her position at the end of her current term.

LeGris has served as councilmember for five years and three terms, beginning in 2021. She said in a statement Friday she won’t run for reelection for a fourth term next year to look for a career path that’s more financially sustainable.

She says her goal is to continue work in public service, and called her work on council a “fulfilling, meaningful” experience.

Most Lexington-Fayette Urban County Councilmembers serve two-year terms, with the exception of at-large councilmembers, who serve four-year terms. LeGris’ term will end at the beginning of 2027, after the 2026 election.

In the meantime, LeGris is asking more people to get involved with local government and politics.
