More than 700 people attended last year's Be Healthy Bash.

The University of Kentucky is hosting its 3rd annual Be Healthy Bash Saturday – and everyone is invited to the free event. Jenni Jinright is the manager of UK Health Care’s Healthy Kentucky Initiative. She said it’s a wellness festival, aimed at body and mind.

“There'll be opportunities for students and the community at large to come and have health screenings, health education. There'll be opportunities for cooking demos, physical activity.”

There will also be free vaccinations. Jinright said last year, more than 700 people attended, and with the City of Lexington adding the Be Healthy Bash to the Lex 250 schedule, more folks are likely to attend this year.

Jinright said attendees can learn how the mind and body can work together to promote health and happiness.

“Your mental health is as much an important factor of your health outcomes as you know your health diagnoses, right? And so physical activity and what you eat and how you prepare your mind and deal with certain stressors impacts your health.”

Several activities are aimed at children, including a bounce house, petting zoo, face painting, and a meet and greet with UK’s Wally Cat.

Also, the first 500 people in will get a free lunch. Jinright noted that September is Suicide Prevention Month, and the Be Healthy Bash is also designed to get upstream and reduce the stigma of asking for help.
