Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton, shown here delivering here state of the city address in January, will seek a third term next year.

If past is prologue, Gorton would seem to have a good chance for reelection next year. She won her first mayoral bid in 2018 with 68 percent of the vote and topped that four years later with 71 percent.

In a statement, Gorton cited her initiatives to improve policing and reduce violence among young people and her work to increase the number of affordable housing units and provide more services for the homeless.

Gorton graduated from the University of Kentucky’s College of Nursing and served 16 years on the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council.
