Beverly Gumm, left, and daughter Christina Combs, were shot to death Sunday at Richmond Road Baptist Church by a man with a lengthy criminal record.

A woman whose mother and sister were murdered in Lexington Sunday by a man with a criminal record dating back to at least 1998 said she feels like the justice system let her family down. Rachael Barnes’ stepfather and brother-in-law were also badly wounded Sunday when Guy House went on a shooting spree at Richmond Road Baptist Church. She said House, who was killed by Lexington police, was basically a career criminal.

“It's like 42 different, you know, incidents that this guy has done. I mean, I feel like he should have been in the penitentiary and not been able out on the street to, you know, harm my mother and my sister and my stepfather and brother-in-law.”

Barnes said she finds some comfort in where her mother and sister, Beverly Gumm and Christina Combs, died.

“She died doing what she loved, and that was, you know, be. In church and serving the Lord. And you know, they were down there being silly, you know, cooking lunch for everyone. And you know, I couldn't imagine her wanting to go in any other place.”
