The Lexington Police Department and the Kentucky State Police held a news conference yesterday Monday afternoon about Sunday’s shootings that killed two people and injured three others – including a state trooper. Guy House was fatally wounded by Lexington police after allegedly shooting four people at Richmond Road Baptist Church, two of whom died. Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said he was proud of his officers.

“The officers who responded to the church tragic scene, they began providing first aid and care to the individuals who had been shot until paramedics arrived.”

House allegedly shot the state trooper about an hour before he drove to the church in a vehicle he car-jacked at Sayre Christian Village. State police said the trooper was badly wounded but is in stable condition and they’re taking over the ongoing investigation. Kenneth Payne of the city’s anti-gun violence group One Lexington said their motto is, “All Hearts on Deck.”

“We have already been working diligently to reach out to some of these victims to see how that we can support them with resources. We have several different community partners that are stepping up to help us in these efforts.”

State Trooper Matt Sudduth said Good Samaritans helped keep the trooper alive after he was shot.
