The Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs and UK’s Gatton College of Business and Economics have extended their partnership through 2027. Anne Jewell is the president and CEO of the Governor's School for Entrepreneurs, which was formed in 2013. She said the next class of students will arrive Sunday for an intense three-week program.
“They will learn how to identify problems, come up with solutions and create a business to solve a particular problem, and then they pitch it in a Shark Tank-like event at the end of the program.”
Jewell said the extension means students will have continued access to state of the art facilities and staff. She said this summer’s class of 160 is their largest.
“One of the big pieces of feedback that we've gotten from our students over the years is that one of the things that means the most to them and really does transform their lives, is all the connections that they make with other students from across the state, people that they would never have had a chance to meet.”
Jewell said since the program was formed, students from 101 of Kentucky’s 120 counties have taken part and graduates from the summer program have launched more than 70 businesses.
