EKU students have created an online petition pushing back against a proposal that could add more tuition fees.
It would lower the threshold for those fees from 18 credit hours of classes each semester to 15, and would take effect next fall. The university would charge an extra $350 for each extra credit hour.
The proposal is in front of the school Board of Regents and will be considered next week.
An official statement from EKU says it’s meant to bring more consistency, improve scheduling and planning and make the school more financially sustainable.
A change.org petition opposing the idea has more than 2,000 signatures as of Friday afternoon. Petitioners say their majors require those extra credit hours each semester, and the policy would create a larger financial burden.
WEKU tried to contact organizers through the petition for an interview, but hasn’t yet received a response as of Friday afternoon.
