Historic Lexington racetrack Keeneland is rescheduling its first races of its spring meet in the face of severe weather.
The track says it’s pushing those races back to protect its horses, participants and fans.
Today (Friday)’s opening race card is now scheduled for Monday. Saturday’s race card is now scheduled for Tuesday.
Sunday is now opening day for spring meet, with gates opening at 11 a.m.
Keeneland canceling races is uncommon. The racetrack canceled its spring meet in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The last time spring meet races were called off because of weather was in 2015.
Tickets for this week’s cards are now valid for any race day during the spring meet, including dates that are sold out. Free general admission is also available to all guests on Monday and Tuesday, with no ticket purchase required.
More information about the racetrack’s updated schedule and ticketing protocols are available here.
