Lexington is canceling its St. Patrick’s Day parade out of caution for severe weather this weekend.

The National Weather Service reports severe thunderstorms and high winds are possible Saturday afternoon and evening, when the parade was originally scheduled.

Lexington officials say the weather would create bad conditions for both spectators and parade acts, and would be a safety concern.

The is still holding St. Patrick's Day festivities indoors at the Lyric Theatre, starting at 10:30 a.m. That includes performances by Irish dance groups, pipe bands and other musical acts.

Celtic-Appalachian fusion band Scythian is also set to perform the day of St. Patty’s at Transylvania University, Monday at 7 p.m.
