Eastern Kentucky University’s aviation program is joining with airline Republic Airways to help students with job placements after college.
The partnership would give flight students a conditional offer of employment with the airline after they receive their instrument rating, which trains them to fly in harsh or cloudy conditions.
Aviation student Faith Montreuil says the partnership is an extension of an existing connection with the college.
“A lot of their base operations are close to where our school is, so it's easier for a pilot to come here for college and then transition to maybe Louisville airport to start their operations,” Montreuil said.
EKU is in the middle of bolstering its aviation program. A similar partnership with Allegiant Airlines was also announced in October. The school also broke ground on a new training center at the nearby Central Kentucky Regional Airport in November.
