Lexington VA job cuts story correction

Lexington VA

In a story posted last weekend, WEKU wrote that the Lexington Veterans Affairs Healthcare System’s public affairs officer did not respond to our inquiry about the impact of the first or next round of national VA firings on the Lexington Veterans Affairs Healthcare System.

Tuesday, we learned we a response was sent– a videotaped statement on X from VA Secretary Doug Collins pledging the firings will not affect veterans’ health care. In it, Collins did not address the impact of the first round of nationwide firings (2,400 people) or the next round (approximately 72,000, or 15 percent of the national VA workforce) on the Lexington VA.

We believe WEKU didn’t receive last Friday’s email in a timely manner due to technical difficulties, but we believe it was sent.
