The vice president and general manager of a Lexington animal rescue 501, not-for-profit said they hope to resume accepting dogs and cats in a week-and-a-half. Anita Spreitzer of Paws 4 The Cause said they had to stop taking in pets two-and-a-half weeks ago.
“We had a list of over 50 animals that needed to come in, and then we had a long waiting list. People have been coming to the door and begging us to take animals, and we just couldn't do it anymore.”
Spreitzer said halting intakes has been very hard on her and the staff of Paws 4 The Cause.
“It's very heartbreaking to say no. You feel defeated. You feel like there's got to be an end in sight. And there is no end in sight right now.”
Spreitzer said many rural areas don’t have affordable spay and neuter programs. She said they hope to open their own low-cost spay and neuter clinic sometime in the next six months.
