UK President Eli Capilouto released a statement Monday after the Trump Administration announced cuts for "indirect costs" in research funding.

University of Kentucky President Eli Capilouto has released a statement saying President Trump’s executive order on research funding would cost the school tens of millions annually.

Last Friday, the National Institutes of Health announced it was lowering the reimbursement rate for indirect costs of research on new and existing contracts to 15 percent. Monday, UK President Eli Capilouto posted a statement saying the new rate would “impact” research efforts into cancer, heart disease, children’s health, opioid use disorder and Alzheimer’s. The statement cited construction and outfitting of labs and research equipment as examples of what indirect costs, or overhead, fund. A federal judge has put a temporary halt on the cuts, which the administration said would save $4 billion a year.
