Lexington officials discussed their plan for winter weather ahead of more expected storms Tuesday morning.
The city has changed its response plan since the last round of winter weather last month. That includes more communication with the local school district, more manpower and more snow plows on the road.
Lexington Director of Streets and Roads Rob Allen says he doesn’t expect this round of snow to stick.
“We hope that this is here and gone within a couple days, and that it transitions on the backside to more of a rain event that will help us,” Allen said. “There's very little ice or sleet associated with this storm for now, so hopefully that will hold true.”
City officials say to limit travel in the meantime, if possible. They recommend stocking vehicles with essentials like extra warm blankets and clothing, food and water, medications, an ice scraper, a shovel and a phone charger.
In the meantime, Lexington Emergency Management Director Rob Larkin recommends limiting travel, if possible.
“If you must travel, allow substantially more time to get to your destination. Slow down. I'll say it again, slow down. And increase distance between vehicles,” Larkin said.
