There’s a new crosswalk at one of Lexington’s busier intersections – Clays Mill and Harrodsburg roads. David Filiatreau is a traffic manager with the city. He said the idea stemmed from a meeting with a neighborhood association.

“It really originated from our meeting with the Picadome neighborhood and sort of complaints about movement effectively. They almost thought of Harrodsburg Road as like a river.”

Two crosswalks separated by an island will let folks cross Harrodsburg Road without having to walk half a mile or more to another.

“Previously, there was really no -- you either go to cross at Lane Allen or at Waller Avenue. So you're, what, nearly a mile, probably between the two, half a mile. And so generally, pedestrians aren't going to walk more than 1,000 feet out of their way.”

Filiatreau said LexTran will movie the Cheryl Lane bus stop closer to the new crosswalk on Monday.
