After meeting with members of the Kentucky Gas and Coal Association Friday, U.S. Sen. Rand Paul discussed President-elect Trump's commitment to "drill, baby drill" and backed three of Trump's nominees.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul says he supports President-elect Trump’s approach to energy production. Paul came to Columbia Gas headquarters in Lexington Friday for a meeting with the Kentucky Gas and Oil Association and took a few questions from the news media afterwards.

“I think the new administration is going to be very helpful. We plan on increasing permitting. You heard the President, the new president, say, drill, baby, drill. I'm all for it. I think we need to be producing our own oil and gas here, and not be so dependent on oil and gas from the Middle East.”

Paul said he supported President-elect Trump’s nominations of Pete Hegseth, Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel for cabinet- or high-level posts – and that he wasn’t concerned about Patel’s threats of retribution against Trump’s “enemies.”

“I think it's the opposite. Actually, I don't think that any government should be used against your opponents. So I would never in my wildest dreams think of using anything in government to go after someone from the opposite political party.”

Paul cited Democratic New York state Attorney General Letitia James’ promises to go after Trump, who was convicted of 34 felonies in a case prosecuted by the Democratic district attorney of Manhattan.
