A Lexington-based nonprofit is collecting winter coats for underprivileged children in central and eastern Kentucky. Devine Carama is the director of Believing for Forever, which distributed more than 22-thousand coats in the first 10 years of their annual drive. He said there’s still a great need.
“Inflation and other things impacting the economy. We've had a couple storms the last couple years that have impacted different parts of the state. This year, our goal is 2,500 brand new coats for kids in need in central Kentucky and eastern Kentucky as well.”
Carama said while many associate this time of year with Christmas gifts, for some children, some presents are more important than others.
“Toys are great, right? Kids love toys, but every kid deserves a coat. But then also to see how this thing has grown. We’ve got kids who were once recipients of coats that now come out and volunteer their time to sort coats and make sure they're a part of blessing other kids.”
Carama said their winter coat drive continues through December 10.
