The U.S. Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against a Lexington landlord for alleged sexual harassment and retaliation. The suit names Adnan Shalash and 12 owners of rental properties as defendants.
It claims Shalash violated the Fair Housing Act by sexually harassing numerous female tenants, offering housing-related benefits for sexual contact and retaliating against those who refused his advances.
According to the complaint, the suit is the result of a joint investigation by the Justice Department and Department of Housing and Urban Development. It asks for monetary damages for alleged victims and a civil penalty against Shalash and the other defendants, at least some of whom are relatives.
Reached at a business named in the suit, a man who identified himself as Shalash said he didn’t want to speak.
