Lexington Veterans Affairs Healthcare System’s 9th annual Veterans VA 5-K is next Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Sousley campus on Leestown Road. Patrick Sinclair is the voluntary service officer at the Lexington VA.

“We're planning to have a Blackhawk land on the campus. We'll have military vehicles out here for everyone to enjoy and check out. Really kind of see it. And it really is a way for us to showcase our campus, showcase what we do for veterans in the community.”

Sinclair said the beneficiaries will be the vets and families who can stay at the Fisher House for free.

“Since it’s opening a couple years ago, they have saved veterans over $550,000 in services that they may need, that they could save. They can stay at our Fisher House, our Fisher home, free of charge, so that they can be with their veteran, help with their healthcare.”

Sinclair said last year, about 600 people took part in the Veterans VA 5-K, which is open to everyone. Among this year’s attractions are military vehicles and VA service providers.
