A spokesman for the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says free flu vaccination clinics like that scheduled for Oct. 3 help the people who receive them and the entire community.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department will hold a free flu shot clinic at Fayette Mall Thursday, October 3rd. Spokesman Kevin Hall says at least 500 doses will be available, and while sign-ups aren’t required, they are recommended.

“One, if you pre-register, it holds you that shot, so when you show up, you don't have to worry about us running out. You're going to get your shot. And then two, it lets us know how to prepare. Is the demand there?”

Hall said the free vaccinations help not only the folks who’ll receive them, but also the entire community, by reducing the chances of widespread flu. He said the clinic also allows the department to test its emergency preparedness.

“If you think back to the end of 2020, when we were doing those mass vaccination clinics for the COVID vaccine, we were able to respond so quickly and efficiently because every year we provide these free flu shots.”

The free flu vaccination clinic takes place October 3rd from 3 to 7 p.m. at the interior Dillard’s entrance.
