Mary Ann Miranda was hired by the University of Counsel as an associate general counsel two years after she represented a student suing UK, work for which, in part, she accepted a six-month suspension by the state Supreme Court.

An attorney hired by the University of Kentucky for a $150,000 salary had represented a student suing UK just a few years before. In the early stages of an investigation into the way Mary Ann Miranda represented the UK student and another client, she was hired by UK as an associate general counsel. UK officials refused an interview request, but in a statement, a spokesman said Miranda was the most qualified applicant for the open position. The Lexington Herald-Leader reports last year, her license to practice law was suspended by the state Supreme Court for six months after an investigation into her conduct in the two cases. Miranda told investigators she’d been suffering from depression and anxiety disorder.
