Veterans don't have to be enrolled in the VA healthcare system to take part in Thursday's job fair.

The Lexington Veterans Affairs Healthcare System is hosting a job fair Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the auditorium at the Sousley campus on Leestown Road. Elizabeth Dodd is a mental health program manager for the Lexington VA. She said more than 40 employers will be looking to hire vets – including the VA.

“Other healthcare opportunities, manufacturing, different plants throughout central Kentucky, transportation, Lextran, education opportunities, the city has some information, different staffing agencies.”

Dodd said many veterans face barriers to post-military employment, and she and her colleagues can assist them.

“Whether it's trauma-related, substance-related, being able to get their work that they did while in service to translate to community work. You know, there's lots of things that we help them do.”

Dodd said job fair attendees who aren’t enrolled in the VA healthcare system are welcome to attend and can get help with that and other VA services. She encouraged vets to bring their resumes and their interview game faces.
