The fall-time paper shredding event in Lexington is designed to help reduce stolen identity opportunities. It runs from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at 1631 Old Frankfort Pike. Environmental Initiatives Specialist Lauren Monahan said sensitive materials are securely destroyed on-site.
“And then they will turn that into toilet tissue, tissue paper; those really thin types of recycled paper.”
Fayette County residents may bring up to five boxes or bags of dry material to be shredded at no cost. Participants are asked to have the items in the trunk for easy access as staff members unload the materials. Drivers are asked to remain in the car. Monahan said various paper items can be dropped off.
“I would say mostly bank statements, you know account information, so mostly financial. Maybe tax information, sometimes maybe something medical-related if healthcare, things like that,” said Monahan.
Wet material is not accepted. Also, no plastic binders or binder clips. Staples, paper envelopes, and paper clips are acceptable. The fall-time event is for residents only and not businesses.
