Leadership Lexington's first unsung heroes event this weekend

The University of Kentucky will play host to the first annual Lexington Unsung Heroes Ball, sponsored by Leadership Lexington. Jessica Bowman is health and safety officer with the Lexington Fire Department.

“Really the goal of the event is to honor members of our community who work tirelessly for the benefit of the community, but their actions and efforts often go unnoticed. So, we just want them to know that we see them and we appreciate them and to recognize the work they do on behalf of all of us,” said Bowman.

Bowman said there will be a total of seven awards given out during the Saturday evening event at the UK Longship Club.

“Firefighters were among the people that were honored, or could be honored…let’s put it that way..police, fire, ems, teachers, social workers, non-profits..people in education, but firefighters were certainly among the group, but we, by no means, were the only group,” said Bowman.

The fire department battalion chief said CivicLex plans to make this an annual recognition program.
