Motorists traveling north or south on interstates 75 and 64 out of Lexington could encounter some summertime road construction. There are three highway projects going on right now.

The work involves roadway rehabilitation projects in Madison and Scott Counties with interstate widening in between in Fayette County. District Transportation Spokeswoman Natasha Lacy said this is peak repair and new construction season.

“You know those are heavily traveled routes, so they have to be rehabilitated at specific times. That means, of course, milling..taking the top surface off and then repaving. Perhaps doing ditch line work,” said Lacy.

Lacy said there are no specific detour routes suggested, but in many cases, there are some options.

“You could always take an older route. There are always older routes to access that were built prior to the interstates. So, that’s always an option. Course that can take a little bit of extra time, but it can also be a scenic route too as well,” said Lacy.

The rehab work in Madison and Scott Counties is scheduled to be completed in September and October while the road widening is expected to be finished in November of 2024.
