Lexington’s 2nd annual Streetfest will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon downtown. During those hours, a mile-long stretch of Oliver Lewis Way will be closed to allow people to bike, skate, jog, walk and even skip. Julia Maugans is the city’s alternative transportation director. She said there will be lots of fun activities along with an important message.
“Doing things like riding your bike, being able to walk to work and doing other forms of transportation, besides vehicular transportation are about sustainability because they allow you to get from point A to point B in a way that is good for your body and good for the Earth.”
Maugans said there will be t-shirt and other giveaways, including reflective gear for bicycles.
“And there will be different safety stations that people can go around to learn about not only the upkeep of their bicycles, or scooters, but also how to keep themselves safe while they're riding. And there will be free bicycle tune-ups there.”
Other events include a hula hoop contest and a slow bike race.
