Agriculture is an important part of life in Kentucky. A group known as OAK is trying to make it easier to buy ag products near where they’re grown. Oak stands for Organic Association of Kentucky. Katie Harvey is a member of OAK. In an interview with Eastern Standard, Harvey talks about the importance of another acronym – C-S-A.
“CSA stands for community supported agriculture. So it's an acronym. It's all about community and supporting local agriculture. So when you sign up for a CSA, you're signing up for a weekly or bi-weekly or monthly portion of a farms harvest.”
Harvey said what makes C-S-A unique is that buyers sign up for it before the growing season. Her OAK associate, Brook Gentile, said there are great resources for finding a CSA farm.
“Both the OAK directory, but also the KDA, Kentucky Department of Agriculture directory, offer resources for you to find the CSA farm near you that offers products that you might like.”
