The online system used by the state Transportation Cabinet for motor vehicle registrations and other business is back online. Ashley Deshon works in the Fayette County Clerk's office. She said the system was down all-day Thursday and wasn’t up again until Friday morning.
“So, the first thing we do when the computer systems are down, we put up notes in the hallway and try to have some of our staff posted in the hallway just to answer questions about the outage.”
Deshon said a nationwide problem with Microsoft software was to blame. She said when the Avis program used by the state Transportation Cabinet for motor vehicle renewals and other business is down, county clerks can’t carry out all their tasks.
“Without that, there's not a lot of information we can provide our customers, we can't process any motor vehicle transactions without Avis. We can't inquire to some of the needed information, just answer some basic questions without Avis.”
Deshon said they had multiple staffers greeting people as they walked in the building Thursday.
