In the wake of two mass shootings in Louisville last week, Kentucky’s Black Legislative Caucus is asking the General Assembly to pass comprehensive gun reform legislation. State Representative George Brown of Lexington is chair of the caucus, and was joined by other black lawmakers in the capitol rotunda.
“Our kids have the right to go to school in the morning, and come home in the afternoon. People have should be able to go to church and come home from church, kids should be able to have a sweet 16 party and come home from that party. We have an epidemic, I think of gun violence in this country.”
Brown said he and other members of the caucus also support the Tennessee 3, two of whom were briefly expelled from that state’s legislature for violating decorum rules when they pleaded for gun reform.
“We have more guns and more killings by by by use of guns than anywhere else in the country, in the world, actually. And so it's important for us to do the right thing as it relates to the safety and security of our citizens.
One gun reform pushed in the rotunda was a red flag law that would allow authorities to take guns away, at least temporarily, from people deemed dangerous.
