Plans are being finalized for Lexington’s second Clean Slate Expungement Clinic and Job Fair. It will be held April 28th at Central Bank Plaza. It offers residents the possibility of expunging misdemeanors and non-violent felony offenses from their criminal records. Co-sponsoring the event is the Lexington Public Library. Director Heather Dieffenbach said job mentoring will be offered.
“Our staff will be on-site to help with job searches, resume writing, practical tips for an interview, and provide the support for those seeking expungement,” said Dieffenbach
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton said the city is a firm believer in second chances.
One of the entities participating in the downtown event is Legal Aid of the Bluegrass. Robert Johns will become the new legal aid director in May.
“We are committed to giving folks second chances, and that’s second chances at better housing, better jobs, and better lives,” said Johns.
Organizers say it allows participants to vote, and help gain employment, improve education, and attain housing
The expungement clinic will run from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. and the job fair from ten until three on April 28th. Registration and a background check are required for those interested.
