Three law enforcement agencies have joined forces to better ensure sex offender compliance in Fayette County.

The two-day sex offender compliance operation took place in late July. Out of 78 supervised registered sex offenders, Fayette County Sheriff Kathy Witt said 13 were found to be non-compliant with their parole terms and were arrested.

“It is my hope as we move forward that these 13 will have their parole and or their probation, whichever one it is, rescinded or revoked. And it is my hope that they will have to fill out, serve out the rest of their sentence while incarcerated,” said Witt.

Witt said these 78 people are a portion of the 456 registered sex offenders in Fayette County. She noted they are prohibited from living within one thousand feet of a school, licensed daycare, or public playground.

Witt said a sergeant in her office spoke about a new registrant who has moved to the area from another state.

“And in his state of conviction, he was a 20-year registrant. He was very troubled to find out that moving into Kentucky he became a lifetime registrant because in Kentucky our laws are more severe, more strict,” said Witt.

During the course of these checks, the Division of Probation and Parole seized items that violated supervised registered sex offenders’ condition of supervision. Those ranged from unreported/unmonitored devices to possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
