Lexington homeless facility to host program examining mental health and addiction issues

Lexington Hope Center

Lexington’s Hope Center Campus will be the site for a conversation about mental health and addiction on Wednesday. Jeff Johnston, who lost his son to a fentanyl overdose, will bring his Living Undeterred Tour to Lexington. Katie Vogel is the development director for the Hope homeless center. Vogel said 82% of men coming into the agency’s long-term recovery program report illegal drug use. She noted multiple years later, 18% of those same men report use.

“Certainly it’s not necessarily a matter of moving to zero although that would be our ideal world, but we want to see people make progress in their recovery and make progress towards the goals they’ve set for themselves in recovery,” said Vogel.

Vogel said, typically, the Hope Center recovery program has between 100 to 120 men with a capacity of 150. Jeff Johnston’s non-profit, Choices Network, is dedicated to educating kids, parents, teachers, and coaches on the importance of making positive choices. His Living Undeterred Project is looking to build a network of contacts and resources to help develop alternative solutions to mental health and addiction crises. Wednesday's program starts at 6:00 p.m. and includes a panel discussion with local agency officials.
