UK Healthcare incorporating additional security measures

University of Kentucky

University of Kentucky officials are announcing additional security measures in and around UK Hospital.

UK Healthcare officials say the plan calls for investing more than $5 million in security enhancements. A virtual forum for healthcare workers detailed safety measures for staff, patients, and visitors.

Future improvements include the addition of electronic access control to all perimeter doors. They will also utilize technology to enhance threat detection and expand panic alarms and lockdown capabilities.

Kristi Willett in UK public relations said the forum was mainly in response to the completion of ongoing assessments. She said recent incidents of violence like in Tulsa are always a concern. Willett added the fatal shooting of four people at the Oklahoma hospital gave added incentive to bring further awareness to safety measures in place and those planned in the future.
