Support for the people of Ukraine is found in many communities across the country. That includes Lexington where a downtown lighting and Peace Vigil are planned for Wednesday evening.
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton says the Russian invasion of Ukraine is difficult to watch. She says central Kentuckians want to show support for those living in the European country, but also those living in Lexington with ties to Ukraine.
This week LexPark will light the Helix Garage as well as two downtown pedways in the colors of the Ukrainian flag, blue and yellow. The same will happen at City Center.
The peace vigil will include participation from members of the Lexington region’s Ukrainian community, as well as interfaith leaders.
The vigil is scheduled to start at 6:00 Wednesday at the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza.
