AAA is already predicting a Thanksgiving with lots of travel

The Thanksgiving holiday period is still more than two weeks away, but already indications are that it will be a much busier and, sometimes, congested time compared to a year ago.

Triple A is predicting more than 53 million people will travel for the Thanksgiving holiday. That would be a 13% increase over 2020. And that would bring travel volumes within 5% of pre-pandemic levels the year before.

The American Automobile Association is projecting air travel to almost completely recover. This year’s forecast marks the highest single-year increase in Thanksgiving travelers since 2005.

INRIX, a private firm which provides location-based data and analytics, projects the heaviest highway congestion will likely on Wednesday, November 24th. Major metro areas across the U.S. could see more than double the delays versus typical drive times.
