Just in time for fall riding, running, and walking, Lexington officials say it’s free flowing now along the city’s popular Legacy Trail. Over the weekend, utility construction that blocked a short section of the trail near the new Amazon facility was completed. That’s good news for cyclists like Tim Klesk, who’s president of the Bluegrass Cycling Club. Klesk said there may be a few obstacles to maneuver around, but he adds that’s “no big deal.” Klesk said, “It’s not like you’re racing on the trail. You’re not supposed to do over 20 miles an hour on the trail anyhow. Since it’s a multi-use trail, we’re very cognizant of those moms with their kids, or there’s fathers with their children on smaller bikes. So, you tend to ride slower when you see them,” said Klesk.
Klesk took a ride down the Trail Tuesday. He said there were no major impediments to free travel along the Legacy path.
Klesk said the cycling club, originally formed in the 1960’s, has about 700 members. Bikers, walkers, and runners will temporarily use the trail’s original path until a new safer trail path through the Amazon property opens later this fall.
