Eastern Kentucky University Aviation Director Dennis Sinnett said it’s a great time to be a pilot. The former Navy pilot predicts a promising future for aviation students.
The EKU Aviation Director said COVID took the wind out of the sails of many airlines. But Sinnett noted now they are looking for a major uptick and have a major need for pilots. Sinnett added the effort is to grow the program. “We’re doing everything we can within our ability to expand the resources and the capability of the program. Yes, we are doing everything we can to meet the demand to increase the graduation rates,” said Sinnett.
Sinnett said a significant number of veteran pilots took early retirement when COVID kept lots of planes on the ground. He said new pilots will also be required to fly new model aircraft in the years ahead.
The vast majority of the 321 students in EKU’s program currently are aiming for the sky. And Sinnett said it’s like the sky is the limit. “It’s a great time to be a pilot because the airlines and your future is really looking promising because you got, you can start flying and getting paid very very quickly and start moving up in whatever airline you choose to go to,” explained Sinnett.
Sinnett spoke about an EKU student who went for an interview last week. Sinnett said about ten minutes after the interview, he was offered a job as a pilot.
