Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton has unveiled her suggestions for spending well over $100 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding. Her recommendations come after receiving thousands of suggestions from Lexington citizens.
Mayor Gorton is proposing a wide variety of projects and investments. In the area of social service, the biggest chunk, $6 million would go for capital infrastructure funds for community partners who provide critical services in violence prevention and intervention, mental and physical trauma support, addiction recovery, and homelessness.
In long-term economic growth, Gorton suggests $17.5 million for infrastructure at Coldstream Research Campus’ economic development park.
Ten million dollars apiece would go toward affordable housing, developing a sports complex at Cardinal Run North, and to support trails, new playgrounds, pool improvements, and new sports courts. Another ten million is proposed to reward employees who have worked on the front lines during the pandemic and to retain workers.
Lexington’s City Council will review all these ideas and more and take action on a final list this fall.
