The remnants of Hurricane Ida are expected to move through portions of Kentucky Tuesday evening into Wednesday. Eastern and a part of central Kentucky are most likely to see some heavy rains. Although there is potential for flash flooding, Jackson National Weather Service Meteorologist Pete Geogerian said waters along the Kentucky, Licking, and Red River basins are not anticipated to substantially come out of their banks. “You would really have to see that three inches plus really materialize across the whole basin. In general we’ve been dryer the past week over the basin as a whole. I know some places have seen decent amounts of rainfall, but in general, the basin as a whole, can take a pretty good amount of rain right now.”
Geogerian noted IDA could bring two to three inches of rainfall over sections of Kentucky. He added flash flooding along smaller waterways is certainly possible. Geogerian also expects the heavy rains to occur over several hours and not multiple inches in one downpour as that which struck middle Tennessee earlier this month.
