Lexington Officials And Community Dedicate Center For Fathers And Families

Barbeque, music, and many Amens accompanied Friday’s dedication of Lexington’s Center for Fathers and Families.  Fatherhood Initiative Founder David Cozart told those gathered the center is one more light among other individuals, businesses, and churches along Georgetown Street.

Mayor Linda Gorton said Cozart and the fatherhood initiative have carried what she called a huge impact in the community. “Many have been convinced that this effort is the future for the success of our children, for re-connecting fathers, for making families whole,” said Gorton.

Cozart said the west end facility, once home to a savings and loan, focuses on responsible fatherhood, healthy relationships, healthy marriages, and economic stability services.  Cozart noted the programs at the center can play a role in helping to address violence issues in the community.    “Any good strategy or approach to interrupting the cycle of violence is gonna talk about wholistic family approach and in that is fatherhood.  And also fathers can be civically engaged in the community.  If fathers are in the communities, in the spaces, things can change.  Fathers and men of good will,” explained Cozart.

The Center for Fathers and Families is sponsored by the Lexington Leadership Foundation and the Fatherhood Initiative.
