A partially collapsed roof of a parking structure in downtown Lexington got some reinforcement Thursday.
The call came in to Lexington fire around six Thursday morning. A large slab of roof for the BBT parking garage at the corner of south Mill and High Street had fallen in. The building was condemned and shut down, and then Thursday afternoon a crane began working at the site.

Lexington Code Enforcement Director Alex Olszowy said the parking garage’s owner had a structural engineer examine the hole left by the fall of the 30 foot by 200 foot piece of roof.
“And they’re going to remove the collapsed section and then shore up the remaining part of the building per that engineer to secure it until they decide whether they are going to repair or demolish it,” said Olszowy
The Lexington Herald Leader reports the Webb Companies Dudley Webb said there was snow and ice buildup which caused a beam to collapse. Webb also indicated the damaged section would be taken down and rebuilt. No injuries were reported from the collapse.
