Kentuckians Prepare For Ice, Potential Power Outages And Hazardous Travel

lexingtonky.gov

Preparations are being made for what could be a significant ice event across central Kentucky.  That includes workers in Lexington’s Streets and Roads Department.

Director Rob Allen said additional salt has been purchased and chainsaws plus oil and fuel levels are being checked out. “We’re also looking at our contract partners.  Some of our roadway clearance folks and tree companies may get tapped to help us, depending on the size of the event,” said Allen.

Allen noted city workers from other divisions may be called upon to help out with roadway issues.  A sizeable portion of central Kentucky is included in a winter storm warning and predictions call for the possibility of a quarter inch to half inch ice accumulation Wednesday and Thursday.   Possibly complicating the process are predictions for temperatures to drop this weekend.
