Lexington Council To Review Plan For Development

Stu Johnson

A new member of Lexington’s city council is asking his colleagues to take a fresh look at the government’s long-term plan for commercial and residential development.

Sixth District Councilman David Kloiber won council backing to place the city’s comprehensive plan into committee to review. “We should just get in the habit of actively reviewing our current plans in light of what we’ve endured.  And it’s my hope that, in this process, the committee can narrow down the scope and ask the right questions to determine if the plan we have in place that we’ve crafted for the growth of our city has the tools necessary to handle all the upheaval we’ve been through,” said Kloiber.

The issue has been forwarded on to the council’s Planning and Public Safety Committee.

The council this past week also wrestled with how to proceed with formal meetings, either online or a hybrid in-person structure.?

Several times over the past ten months there have been discussions about whether to return to in-person governmental meetings.  During the work session, veteran Councilman Richard Moloney said it’s difficult to stay with virtual meetings when the state legislature and congress meet in-person.  “We need to get back to reality and I just have a hard time looking at other people doing their work and we’re holding it back here.  I just want to bring money into the city,” said Moloney.

Council Member Preston Worley said the pandemic will continue to impact Lexington life, so it’s important to move forward knowing that will be the case.
