Lexington Homeless Agency Re-Initiates Street Outreach Program

Hope Center

Lexington’s Hope Homeless Center is re-starting its street outreach program.  The two team members visit those out on the streets to provide basic necessities and connect them with needed resources including overnight shelter.

Hope Center’s Carrie Thayer said relationship building is a big part of the street outreach program. “They’re learning where did they come from?  What’s they’re story?  And that way with building trust and building relationship with those, then when they do get to the point where they need help, then they know where to come,” said Thayer.

The program, operated previously from 2016 to 2019, is now being supported through federal CARES Act money.  Taking into consideration all of the Hope Center programs including recovery for men and women, Thayer says about 600 people are sheltered each night.  More information on how to help the homeless in the Lexington area is at hopectr.org.
