Transportation And Re-Development Plan For Busy Lexington Roadway Up For Review

Lexington planning officials have released preliminary transportation and re-development concepts to support future growth along one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares. Public review of the plan for Nicholasville Road will continue through December second.

Earlier this year, Lexington residents were invited to provide input on the future of Nicholasville road, a future with additional housing but fewer traffic headaches.  The project goals included more efficient use of land, increasing walkability, and modified mass transit which might include buses with fewer stops.  That’s a part of a Bus Rapid Transit program, similar to rail movement but with buses not trains. 

The ‘Imagine Nicholasville Road’ study covers the corridor between downtown Lexington to Brannon Crossing at the Fayette-Jessamine County line. Lexington Transportation Planner Kenzie Gleason said the plan will guide growth and redevelopment over time, primarily through private development.?
